Procedures
The
many types of radiologic procedures performed within
UIHC's Department of Radiology include
Radiology
Subspecialties
Angiography
and Interventional Radiology- UIHC provides a high
volume of diverse and complex vascular and nonvascular
interventional procedures.
Body
Imaging - subspecialty expertise is provided in
cross sectional body imaging; chest, gastrointestinal,
and genitourinary radiology: magnetic resonance imaging;
and ultrasound.
Interventional
Neuroradiology - The
Interventional Neuroradiology Service (INS) provides
the full spectrum of contemporary and emerging endovascular
therapeutic and neurointerventional techniques related
to the interdisciplinary practice of neurosurgery, neurology,
otolaryngology, orthopedic spinal surgery, and vascular
surgery.
Musculoskeletal
Radiology - Contemporary technology is used
to conduct approximately 40,000 examinations each year
including magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography,
cine computed tomography, and ultrasound. Skeletal
radiologists work in close cooperation with orthopedists,
rheumatologists, and emergency room physicians.
Neuroradiology
- Neuroradiologists perform and interpret a wide variety
of examinations of the head, neck, and spine.
Nuclear
Medicine Nuclear Medicine at UIHC offers the
full range of diagnostic procedures including all cardiac
imaging procedures and such diverse studies as lymphoscintigraphy,
white cell and platelet scintigraphy, and ProstaScint
imaging. The Positron
Emission Tomograpy (PET) Center is equipped with
cyclotron and extensive chemistry laboratories, and
routinely provides imaging studies for patients requiring
tumor staging, cardiac viability studies, and evaluation
of brain blood flow or metabolism.
Pediatric
Radiology -pediatric radiology involves imaging
