2nd Annual Radiology Postgraduate Seminar & Residents' Research Program

Last year we inaugurated a new event: a one-day program specifically designed for departmental alumni and friends, and combined this with our annual senior residents' presentations. The fit was good and in many ways the sum exceeded the individual parts in value.

The Saturday program began with a morning reception and tour for our departmental alumni (residents, fellows and former staff) and friends of the department. Guests ranged from 1940's graduates and faculty, (Gwilym Lodwick, resident 1947-1950 and faculty 1952-1956), to 1976-1980 residents/fellows (Mike Hirleman), with lots of people in between. Dr. Laurie Fajardo, Department Head, welcomed the group and made a short presentation on the status of the institution. There was a great informal session emceed by Don Young (resident 1968-1970; faculty 1990-2002), involving all the participants in remembrances, renewing contacts, filling in history, etc. We were fortunate to have as our Visiting Professor, Dr. Lee Chiu, now a UCLA consultant, a University of Iowa faculty member from 1972 to 1984, and his wife, Vicki (resident/fellow 1977 - 1981 and faculty member 1981-1984). The day ended with a reception and dinner at The University of Iowa Foundation. On this Iowa spring evening we were able to look over downtown Iowa City and the entire campus from the fourth floor ballroom. It was a great opportunity for seeing old and making new friends.

On April 17, 2004, we will host our 2nd Annual Alumni Reunion. This year our morning session will focus on our 1980-1990 alumni. The afternoon session will again feature presentations of our senior residents' research, and will conclude with our guest

lecturer, Hiroshi Honda, MD, Professor and Chair of Radiology at Kyushu University and UI Radiology alumnus from 1986-1989. The evening event will consist of a cocktail reception and banquet at the University Athletic Club for all participants where Awards for Best Resident Paper will be announced.
