First Annual Medical Imaging Industry Top 10 Award Names Two
UI Radiology Faculty as "Best of the Best"

Medical Imaging recently announced its first-annual Industry Top 10 awards for the "Best of the Best" in the field of Radiology. The purpose was to provide recognition for outstanding practitioners and facilities, as well as to inspire accomplishment, research and goal setting for their peers. The editors of Medical Imaging also wanted to provide readers with an opportunity to voice their opinions about who they considered to be the top performers in 10 different categories. Two University of Iowa Department of Radiology faculty were among those voted to be in the top 10.

Laurie L. Fajardo, MD, Professor and Chair, received a spot in the category of Women's Imaging Specialist. She helped develop the practice of image-guided breast biopsy as an alternative to surgery. In addition, her areas of expertise include development of digital imaging detectors, technology assessment and health policy.
