Clinical and Research Interests

1. In vitro modeling studies for the technical development and feasibility assessment of endosaccular occlusion of intracranial aneurysms using a nonadhesive liquid co-polymer (ethylene vinyl alcohol), and microballoon assisted ("neck plastic") techniques.

2. In vivo preclinical studies to assess feasibility and efficacy of endosaccular obliteration of aneurysms using a nonadhesive liquid co-polymer (ethylene vinyl alcohol), and microballoon assisted techniques in a swine model

3. Development of a fluid mechanics laboratory for studying hemodynamic pathophysiology of intracranial aneurysms

4. Preclinical development and evaluation of ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer for direct puncture tumor embolization using the rabbit hypervascular neoplasm model

5. Engineering modeling of polymerization and binding mechanics of cyanoacrylates

6. Development of a canine model of human cerebrovascular geometry for standardized evaluations of the technical performance characteristics of various microcatheter PTCA and stent devices under consideration for the treatment of human cerebrovascular occlusive disease

7. In vivo studies elucidating the role(s) of angiogenesis in the pathoetiology of arteriovenous shunting malformations of the central nervous system using previously developed animal models

8. Phase I/II multicenter randomized clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of transarterial therapeutic embolization of hypervascular tumors using ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer compared to polyvinyl alcohol suspensions

9. NINDS Phase III multicenter randomized clinical trial comparing the safety and efficacy of carotid PTA/stenting with open endarterectomy.
