Program Information

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has 900 beds and is closely allied with a 200-bed Veterans Administration Hospital on the same grounds. Both hospitals serve as major referral centers for the Midwest. The Department of Radiology consists of 64 staff physicians and 36 residents. Last year these hospitals performed approximately 291,000 radiological examinations.

The one year fellowship in pediatric radiology involves imaging of children from the newborn period through adolescence. All areas of pediatric imaging are emphasized, including magnetic resonance imaging, pediatric neuroradiology, computed tomography, ultrasound, angiography and interventional procedures, and conventional imaging techniques. Pediatric radiologists supervise fellows who are in the role of consultants during their active pediatric radiology services. Fellows also are active in a number of research projects and are expected to become involved in the teaching mission of the section.
