900 beds and is closely allied with a 200-bed Veterans Administration
Hospital on the same grounds. Both
hospitals serve as major referral centers for the Midwest. The Department
of Radiology consists of 64 staff
physicians and 36 residents. Last year these hospitals performed approximately 291,000 |
radiological examinations. This
is a very good opportunity to receive advanced training in all
spectrums of IR clinical practice, including regional therapy
for malignancies, such as RFA and chemoembolization, UFE, embolization
for all kinds of massive bleedings, arterial and venous recanalization
by thrombolitic therapy, PTA and stent placement, TIPS, venous
access, and all extravascular procedures, such as PCN, biliary
drain placement, biliary stenting, abscess drain placement and
percutaneous biopsies. Nearly 10,000 procedures were performed
in the year 2002, and of those, 72% were interventional procedures.
